Social beings: a lasting impression

One of the many unique things about occupational therapy is how it looks at all parts of the client and how they individually fit into the community and what roles they find meaningful to them. Throughout the decades, occupational therapy has focused on the individual. Humans are social beings and have the innate drive to seek out human connection. With that being said, occupational therapists will always have to take into consideration the social aspects of each individual and how those social aspects fit into the client's particular schema. 'Being social' will look different based on the individual person or needs and many occupations can be considered social activities like cooking, shopping and working, to name a few. It has remained true over time that occupational therapists consider the social condition when providing interventions and helping people live meaningful and fulfilling lives.
